Band play in the Royal Albert Hall

GENERALLY the first half of October is a chance for young people to rest during the school holidays but this is not the case for the 45 players of the Carnoustie and District Youth Brass Band who have been practising hard.

The band, which has been crowned British Youth Champions for the past two years, has been invited to be the first band from Scotland to perform at the Youth School Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

The Royal Albert Hall is one of the biggest musical venues in the world and the opportunity for the young band members to perform on its stage on the evening of Monday, November 12, will be the opportunity of a lifetime.

Two weeks later the band will return to Perth to compete in the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships in an attempt to regain the Scottish title.

The band has received fantastic support from local organisations and businesses to assist the funding of such a venture. Carnoustie Choir, Carnoustie Gala Committee, Carnoustie Community Council, Mackays, Angus Council Community Grant Fund have all assisted with funding this year.

The Rotary Club of Abertay has been a great supporter of the band over the past three years. This support is continuing this year in the form of a joint venture concert.

The band, in conjunction with Abertay Rotary, will perform a not to be missed musical celebration of festive cheer in St Paul’s Episcopal Cathedral in Dundee on the evening of Saturday, December 15, when people will get the opportunity to hear the band perform and to sing Christmas carols accompanied by the band and local choirs.  The school Choir from Barnhill Primary will also perform with the band on the evening.

Tickets to this event will be limited. Ticket purchases can be made from
Dundee City Box Office,
MacDougall's News, 100 High Street, Carnoustie,
